My Name is Amy and for as long as I can remember I have been around dogs. I am happily Married to my husband Jesse and we have two beautiful daughters. This is my story.
Over the years I welcomed many dogs into my life but it was my Chow Chow Roxie who inspired me to become a groomer. She had separation anxiety and would not do well in a situation where there was a lot of dogs. In 2006 I began my schooling to become a groomer. I opened Just 4 Paws Dog Grooming in 2007. I offer one on one grooming to create a less stress approach. 2013 was a year I will never forget our beloved Roxie passed away peacefully in my arms the week before Christmas. I was left heartbroken and devastated at the loss of my sweet girl. I knew in my heart I could never have another Chow Chow as loveable as my girl Roxie.
In September of 2014 For my Birthday we decide that it was time to add another Pup to our family. I began to search and look at different breeds when I came across a posting for a Miniature Australian Shepherd (at that time they were called Mini Aussies). That is when I met my now Amazing Mentor and Friend Lisa Hartjes of Follow Me Canine Companions.
I had contacted Lisa about a Blue Merle Puppy that she was wanting a Partner Family for. After a few days of chatting , we met Lisa and this sweet ball of fluff named "Everlette" now Penny. We decided that Penny would be a good fit for our family and entered in to an amazing Partnership adventure with Lisa.
Like potato chips you just can't have one MAS so
in 2017 Poppy came to live with us. Poppy is Penny's Daughter. When Penny retired from Lisa's program, she became the foundation dog for Just 4 Paws MAS. Penny's first litter under my program was born in September of 2019 when she welcomed Bear!
We have since added Storm to our family he is from Penny's 2020 litter.
I truly love breeding and showing dogs in confirmation. It has become a labor of love. We should all be so lucky to do something we love!
Although my journey into breeding has really just begun, I am passionate providing families with healthy loving fur babies.
The joy I see when a family gets to take their new baby home is the best part and makes all the work worth it.
I dedicate this section to my friend, mentor and all around wonderful person.
Just 4 Paws MAS is possible because of Lisa Hartjes of Follow Me Canine Companions.
Lisa has guided, helped and still is teaching me all about breeding. The love and dedication she has to providing families with beautiful pups is amazing! Please click on the link below to see all about her program!
The Miniature American Shepherd shares many physical traits with its forebear the Australian Shepherd—only on a smaller scale. Females stand between 13 and 17 inches at the shoulder; males range from 14 to 18 inches. Despite their size, Minis are every inch a true herding dog: energetic, versatile, rugged, and extremely bright. The eye-catching coat comes in black, blue merle, red, and red merle. (The merle will exhibit in any amount marbling, flecks, or blotches.) Minis move with the smooth and agile step of a dog built for hard work on punishing terrain.
Exercise
Miniature American Shepherds are active and athletic, and they need a moderate amount of exercise but are also very adaptable to their family’s way of life. They do well as city dogs as long as owners provide sufficient exercise. They enjoy outings with their people that will occupy both their mind and body. They enjoy and excel in many canine events, including obedience, agility, and tracking.
Training
As with all breeds, early socialization and puppy training classes are recommended and help to ensure that the dog grows into a well-adjusted, well-mannered companion. Intelligent and willing to please, the Miniature American Shepherd is highly trainable and will reach his best potential as a companion when taught at least basic obedience.
